Hi! I'm Leticia Taylor, dancer instructor, performer, choreographer, musician, DJ and Brazilophile. I've been teaching and performing samba in NYC since 2006. I'm available to teach group and private classes in NYC and beyond.
Samba is one of my favorite dances and I feel fortunate to have been sharing it with so many students and audiences. I'm experienced in a variety of other styles including Hustle, Salsa, Wacking, Afro Brazilian and modern, most of which influence my particular style of samba.
In addition to teaching and performing samba, I'm an American Aerobics and Fitness Association (AFAA) certified Group Exercise Instructor and a Steele Pilates Certified Mat Pilates Instructor. I'm certified in the Dulaine Method of teaching, and was a Teaching Artist for American Ballroom Theatre's Dancing Classrooms program in NYC's public schools for seven years.
I've performed with various Brazilian dance groups including Silvana Magda's Viva Brazil Dancers and my own Samba Nation Productions, and at venues including S.O.B.'s and Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and events like Celebrate Brooklyn. I've appeared on several TV shows performing samba including TLC's Four Weddings and Bravo's Million-Dollar Listing New York. Most recently, my teaching activities have been a public samba dance workshop for Downtown Brooklyn (September 2016), and hosting a weekly dance party and samba dance class in Harlem NYC's only authentic Brazilian botequim, Boteco Brasil.
I have thorough knowledge of Brazilian music and rhythms, and have experience playing several Brazilian percussion instruments and singing backing vocals with bands. I'm especially fond of samba de raíz and partido alto.
